💡 Key Takeaways

Driver Why It Works
Multi-link ad directory format More opportunities to click = higher aggregate CTR
Giveaway + local story combo Creates urgency and emotional connection
Prominent named text CTAs Local business name recognition drives action
Emoji in subject line + clear value prop Boosts open rates, which feeds into higher absolute click counts
Winner/result emails Low click motivation once incentive is resolved — consider pivoting to next giveaway CTA immediately

The data strongly suggests that value-forward content (discounts, giveaways, local discovery) paired with multiple clear CTAs is the most reliable formula for getting local audiences to click

My highest CTRs come from high-intent, focused emails with one clear action and personality-forward button copy. I use a lot of SPARKLE language, and it picked up the sparkle is in the specificity — the more a CTA sounds like me rather than a generic template, the more my audience clicks.

I loved how it gave me some tips and suggestions on CTA’s to try!!! This challenge is amazing!

Here's a breakdown of what's driving results — and what's dragging them down — based on your campaign history.

📊 What's Working

✅ Content-Consumption CTAs (+18.8% above average)

Campaigns using "consume content" CTAs (watch this, read more, listen now) significantly outperform the account average — averaging a 3.87% CTR across 33 campaigns. These CTAs invite action without pressure, which aligns well with a golf instruction audience.

✅ Free Resource Offers (+27.5% above average)

Leading with a free resource (tips, guides, drills, video lessons) is your strongest offer type — averaging 4.15% CTR across 26 campaigns. Subscribers respond when value is front-loaded with no barrier to entry.

✅ Newsletter Format

Your top-performing campaigns are overwhelmingly newsletters, not promotions or events. This format is where your audience is most engaged.

✅ Longer Body Copy (+26.6% CTR lift)

More text = more clicks. Campaigns with expanded body copy — context, explanation, storytelling — outperform shorter ones. Your audience wants depth, not just teasers.

✅ More Links (+20.1% CTR lift)

Embedding multiple content pathways (not just one CTA button) lifts results. Think: a primary video link, a drill tip link, and a secondary read — multiple on-ramps to engagement.

❌ What's Not Working

⛔ Registration CTAs (-43.9% below average)

"Register now" CTAs are your worst performer — averaging just 1.83% CTR. Subscribers aren't responding to event/webinar sign-up prompts.

⛔ Event Seat Offers (-44.7% below average)

Framing content as an event seat drops CTR to ~1.8% on average across 13 campaigns. Even if the underlying content is strong, the packaging as an event kills engagement.

⛔ Event/Webinar Campaign Type (-55.9% below average)

The event/webinar format is your biggest drag — averaging only 1.44% CTR across 7 campaigns. This is the single worst-performing category.

⛔ More Images (-25.4% CTR impact)

More visuals actually hurt results. Heavier image use correlates with lower CTR. Keep layouts clean and text-forward.

⛔ Richer Design (-15.8% CTR impact)

Overly designed emails also underperform. Simple layouts outperform polished, graphic-heavy designs for this audience.

🎯 What to Use in Your Next Email

Based on the signals above, here's the recipe:

Element Recommendation
Format Newsletter
CTA type Consume content (watch, read, listen)
Offer framing Free resource — no registration required
Body length Long-form — add context, story, or drill detail
Links Multiple (3–5) pathways to content
Images Minimal — 1 max, or none
Design Simple, text-forward layout
Avoid Register CTAs, event framing, heavy visuals

One More Watch Signal

Open rates are trending 28.3% below the industry average and declining over time. This suggests the audience's attention is contracting — making it even more important to lead with immediate, tangible value in your next send rather than asking subscribers to commit to an event or registration.

Would you like me to build a campaign using this framework?

What to Use in Your Next Email

Based on the full picture:

  1. Frame it as an experience or event — not a product pitch. "Transmission," "ritual," "activation" language outperforms promotional copy
  2. Use a "Register" or access-delivery CTA — clear, action-forward, and proven to convert
  3. Lead with a skill or transformation as the core value prop (+20.5% lift)
  4. Keep copy short — rich visuals, multiple links, but tight language
  5. Use a warm, friendly tone — urgent framing drops CTR by 72%
  6. Trigger it via automation — timed or behavior-triggered sends dramatically outperform batch broadcasts on this account

Chandra at Pillai Center

Based on your account's campaign history — with 100 campaigns analyzed over the past 180 days — here's a clear breakdown of what's driving clicks and what's holding them back.

✅ What's Working

Campaign Type

Product announcements are your top performer, with a +30.3% CTR lift above your account average. When a concrete offering or program is featured front and center, your audience clicks.

Tone

Friendly, conversational tone is your strongest signal — delivering a +76.1% CTR lift. Campaigns written in a warm, accessible voice consistently outperform those with a more informational or instructive style.

Offer Type

Emails that include a concrete product or program offer show a +39.2% CTR lift. When there's something tangible to act on, people do.

CTAs

"Claim offer" and "Register" CTAs are your top performers. These direct, action-oriented calls to action are clearly resonating — your audience responds when the next step is specific and purposeful.

❌ What Isn't Working

Campaign Type

Newsletters are your weakest format — associated with a -38.3% CTR versus your account average. General informational sends without a clear action drive the least engagement.

Value Proposition

"Stay informed" positioning is underperforming at -30.7% CTR. Framing emails around awareness rather than a direct benefit or offering is not driving clicks.

CTAs

"Consume content" CTAs (e.g., "Read more," "Watch now") are associated with a -33.3% CTR. Passive invitations to engage with content alone are not moving people to click.

Email Structure

  • Long body copy is associated with a -20.3% CTR impact — shorter emails perform better
  • Too many images correlates with -54.7% CTR impact — use visuals sparingly
  • Too many links correlates with -59.3% CTR impact — limit to one essential CTA

📊 Overall Engagement Health

Your open rates are trending up and outperform your industry by +10.5%. However, click rates are flat — meaning people are opening but not clicking through. The data points to a content strategy gap: opens are earned, but conversion momentum needs a shift from informational to action-oriented sends.

💡 What to Use in Your Next Email

Based on your performance data, here's the formula for your next send:

Element Recommendation
Campaign type Product announcement
Tone Friendly and warm — not expert or instructional
Offer Include a specific program, event, or product
CTA "Claim Offer," "Register," or "Join the Session"
Body length Keep it concise — short to medium
Images Use 1–2 maximum
Links One primary CTA link only
Subject line Lead with "Your" or "Important" — aim for 75–90 characters

The core shift: Move away from newsletters and content-consumption sends toward program or event announcements with a single, specific action. Your audience is engaged and opening — the opportunity is in giving them a clear, compelling reason to click.

Would you like me to create a campaign using this approach?

Here's a full breakdown of what's working, what isn't, and what to use next — based on the actual content and performance data across your campaigns.

📊 What's Working

1. Event-Triggered Confirmation Emails (highest click rates)

Automated emails tied to a concrete action — like a webinar registration — consistently produce the highest engagement. The webinar confirmation email achieved a 33% click rate, with 100% click-to-open rate. Why? The recipient has just taken an action and is in "do mode." Multiple utility CTAs (Add to Google Calendar, Add to Outlook, Add to Yahoo) gave them several reasons to click.

✅ CTA type that works: Utility/action-based buttons ("Add to Calendar," "Join the Meeting")

2. Lead Magnet Delivery Emails (strong click-to-open)

The HyperAchiever lead magnet email had a 28.6% click-to-open rate, with the download link being the top-clicked CTA (3 unique clicks). The warm, conversational tone — personalized with %FIRSTNAME%, checkmark benefit lists, and a soft secondary CTA (free discovery call) — kept it from feeling transactional.

✅ CTA type that works: Direct resource link ("Download your copy here") + Soft secondary CTA ("Schedule a free discovery call")

Key pattern: Primary CTA was single and clear. Secondary CTAs existed but didn't compete visually.

3. Thought Leadership / Coaching Insight Emails with Reflection Questions

The "Conscious Choice" followup email had a 70.6% open rate (your highest) and a 2.9% click rate driven primarily by the discovery call CTA. More importantly, the structure worked: a relatable scenario, a reframe ("That pause is where leadership lives"), a 3-step actionable framework, and a closing reflection question before the CTA.

✅ CTA type that works: "Schedule a Call Today" button — prominent, branded, action-oriented ✅ Content type that works: Scenario-based teaching + reflection question → CTA

❌ What Isn't Working

1. Newsletter-Style Broadcast Emails (low CTR)

Campaigns sent to large lists (500+) — newsletters, blog series, leadership discipline emails — consistently show click rates under 2.2%, and several register under 1%. Despite strong open rates (40–70%), readers aren't clicking.

The problem: These emails tend to cover broad topics without a single, focused next action. When everything is important, nothing gets clicked.

2. Multiple Competing CTAs Without Clear Hierarchy

The HyperAchiever lead magnet email had 10 links in the email (download, discovery call, website, 4 social platforms, etc.). Almost all clicks concentrated on the download link. The discovery call — arguably the more valuable conversion — got zero clicks despite being prominently placed.

The problem: Too many CTAs dilute attention. The "free discovery call" gets buried when it appears alongside social icons and a homepage link.

3. Emails Without a Clear "One Thing"

Campaigns like the Leadership series and blog series had compelling content but no strong single action. Open rates were decent (42–50%) but click rates ranged from 0.2% to 2.1%, suggesting people read and moved on.

🎯 What to Use in Your Next Email

Based on the patterns above, here's the winning formula:

Element Recommendation
Content type Scenario-based coaching insight (like "Conscious Choice") — open with a relatable situation your reader has lived
Structure Situation → Reframe → 3-step practical framework → Reflection question → CTA
Primary CTA Single, prominent button: "Schedule a Discovery Call" or "Book a Free Session"
CTA placement After the reflection question — let the insight land first, then invite action
Secondary CTAs None, or move social icons to footer only
Tone Conversational + direct ("I get it. I've been there") — your Thrive program vocabulary fits naturally here
Personalization Use %FIRSTNAME% in the opener
Subject line pattern Direct question framing: "Are You Choosing Your Response or Just Reacting?" is your best example — mirror that format

The single biggest lever to improve click rates on your broadcast campaigns: replace multi-link emails with one primary CTA per email, and make that CTA a discovery session or a download — not a homepage visit or social follow.

Newsletters and operational updates generate the strongest engagement, particularly when written with urgent, declarative messaging. Contextual calls to action outperform direct prompts, while surveys, webinars, instructional content, and automated emails generally see lower engagement. Prioritize timely, relevant updates with naturally embedded actions and reduce reliance on overt CTA buttons.
