Hi Priyanka!

Happy to help you set up both of these! These are really popular automation workflows - here’s how to tackle each one:

1. Cart Abandonment Setup

Prerequisites:

  • Your ecommerce platform must be connected (Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, etc.)
  • Deep Data integration enabled

Here are the steps!

  1. Automations → Create Automation
  2. Choose “Abandoned Cart” template (or start from scratch)
  3. Trigger: “Abandons cart” event
  4. Add delays: Wait 1 hour, then 24 hours, then 72 hours (customize timing)
  5. Email sequence:
  • Email 1: “Forgot something?” (gentle reminder)
  • Email 2: “Still interested?” (maybe add social proof)
  • Email 3: “Last chance” (urgency + possible discount)

Pro Tips:

  • Add conditions to exclude contacts who’ve already purchased
  • Include dynamic product images using %ABANDONEDCART_PRODUCTS%
  • Test with a small segment first

2. Campaign-Specific Opt-Out (Unsubscribe from this campaign only)

This is a bit trickier since ActiveCampaign doesn’t have a built-in “unsubscribe from this campaign type only” feature, but here are two workarounds:

Option A: Tag-Based Segmentation

  1. Create tags for each campaign type (e.g., “newsletter”, “promotions”, “product-updates”)
  2. Add preference center link in emails instead of standard unsubscribe
  3. Landing page where contacts can choose which types to opt out of
  4. Automation to apply/remove tags based on preferences
  5. Segment campaigns to exclude specific tags

Option B: Custom Fields for Preferences

  1. Create custom fields like “Wants_Newsletters” (Yes/No)
  2. Preference center page to update these fields
  3. Segment your campaigns using these custom fields
  4. Keep main subscription status intact

For opting out of specific promotional campaigns, I like to have a sentence at the bottom of the email (and sometimes at top) that says ‘Not interested, click here.’ Doing so tags them in ActiveCampaign, which you can then exclude that tag from future email sends.

This helps a ton with managing unsubscribes.
