Add to calendar button and trigger emails

Thanks for your question! It is possible to trigger an automation when a checkbox-type custom field is updated. To do this, you will select the trigger “contact field changes” and then select the desired checkbox field. Depending on the number of choices, you may still want to use if/elses in the automation to determine the correct automation path based on the values in the checkbox field.

It sounds like you’re already using conditional content, which would be my next suggestion. Love to hear it! Conditional content can allow you to build a single email that can show/hide content based on certain parameters you select. This is a great option if you want to customize an email based on a contact’s values in a checkbox field.

For your “add to calendar” button question, I was able to find this guide from Microsoft to adding calendar links to emails: Create an Add to calendar link in an email message - Microsoft Support. Thanks for coming back to me. I’m checking out the ‘add to calendar’ as we speak!!

For the checkbox trigger, I’m really keen to look into this more. the current set up of using a tagging automation is a little laborious. We would typically have about 3-6 checkboxes promoting 3-6 webinars on a form. Is this option of ‘checkbox trigger’ going to work in this scenario.

Yes, you should be able to set up an automation triggered by the field updating in general, and then use if/elses to check for specific values in the checkbox. The important thing is to use “contains” logic in your if/else actions, since it is possible a contact might have selected multiple options. Here is an example automation I drafted up: Zight 2024-10-01 at 2.38.10 PM. The automation is triggered by the checkbox field being updated, and then the contact will proceed through a series of if/elses that check if the checkbox field contains each value. If yes, an email is sent, and then the next value is checked. If no, that email is skipped, and it moves on to check the next value. Rinse/repeat until all values are accounted for.

I think I am missing something really obvious 🤣 . When i go to the trigger and select ‘Contact field changes’ I add in the field, but nothing comes up on checkboxes. I’m struggling to see how you set ‘checkbox’ in the trigger. Even when I add in if/else afterwards, I can’t see how I ask it to check the checkbox… any help would be appreciated. I think I am missing something. PS. this does look much simpler than using tagging, so I’m keen to get it working.

Another point, you have 3 emails in your automation. Would it work if I looped up each of the i/else checks and added an email at the end with conditional content?

In my screenshot, “checkbox” is just the name of the checkbox-type field in my demo account. You’d need to select the name of the checkbox field in the trigger. Additionally, you won’t actually check any boxes, but rather you’ll select the value of the specific boxes. So if your checkbox has the values of Option 1, Option 2, Option 3, etc, you’d set the first if/else to “Contains Option 1”, the second to “Contains Option 2”, etc etc. To help you get this set up, I went ahead and recorded a video walkthrough here: Zight Recording 2024-10-02 .... You should be able to follow along and set it up on your end 😀

That is a great question about using a single email with conditional content. However, if you’re only sending one email that uses conditional content to display info about the customer’s chosen webinars, you technically wouldn’t need to set up an automation like I did above.
