Tracking number of abandoned carts recovered

Is there a place or metric for me to monitor how many carts have been recovered?

What I’m seeing on Shopify at the moment is that I’m recovering only 1-2% of ALL abandoned carts which seems insanely low but I’m not even sure whether the Shopify metric is accurate.

And I Don’t seem to find such data on Active Campaign either.

Thank you for reaching out, I can definitely see why this kind of insight would be valuable. While we don’t have a preconfigured way to report recovered carts, there are some steps you can take to get insight into your recovery rate.

  1. Set up an abandoned cart automation for your Shopify store, with the ‘Abandons a Cart’ trigger (OR just add these subsequent steps to your existing abandoned cart automation as applicable)
  2. add an email action that includes the abandoned cart block that will display their abandoned products
  3. Add a wait step to give your shoppers some time to receive their email and recover their abandoned cart (up to you how long you want that to be).
  4. Add an if/else step and set the condition to: Ecommerce → ‘Has recovered abandoned cart’
  5. In the yes pathway, add an action to add a tag: “Recovered abandoned cart”
  6. In the no path, feel free to add whatever you want, you can simply just end the automation if you choose to

Now that you have this automation set up, contacts will be given a tag when they recover an abandoned cart that can be used in the conversions system to flag it as an event and be reported on.

To do that:

  1. Go to settings → conversions → add new conversion
  2. Name the conversion something like “Recovered abandoned cart”
  3. Choose ‘has tag’ as the conversion event, and choose the “Recovered abandoned cart” tag from the dropdown
  4. Value of the conversion is up to you; because we don’t currently persist the value of the abandoned cart itself into the conversions system, you might just select no value for now to focus on the quantity of carts being recovered. OR, you could also assign an average value of recovered carts, perhaps leveraging Shopify’s abandoned cart insights to get that average order value for abandoned carts.
  5. Choose whether you want the limit the # of times the conversion event triggers per contact and if you want to retroactively register for relevant contacts (my assumption would be you don’t want to limit the # of times bc a contact can recover multiple abandoned carts, and that you do want it to retroactively apply to see what your recovery rate looks like historically and going forward.

Once you have that set up, you can use the conversion attribution report in the reporting area of the platform to see how many abandoned carts are being recovered in your store.

I understand this is a bit of work so please let me know if you have any questions or feel free to set up time on my calendar if you want to walk through it together. Thank you for reaching out!
