If yes, contact moves down till they reach the next goal.
But now, what does “continue anyway” mean if my GOAL 1 is “has_visited_url” and the contact has NOT visited the url?
Does it mean the contact will continue down the path till the end of the automation without honoring the subsequent goal’s conditions (assuming all have similar goal conditions)?
Or does it mean they will stay at goal 1 until the “has_visited_url” is met?
I mean I am confused between the two options. Can you give an example scenario please.
If Goal 1 is set to “continue anyway” that means a contact will reach that goal and pass through it without completing it. Alternatively, you might want them to stay at Goal 1 until they visit_url. Basically, pause the sequence until they complete the target behavior.
If a contact passes through a goal action without meeting its conditions, they will not appear in “has completed goal” conditions and they won’t count toward the “goal completion” conversion rate that is displayed.
They’ll only wait at a goal if you selected “wait until conditions are met.”
An example scenario might be a workflow that is serving two purposes. I wouldn’t recommend doing this, but it’s maybe the clearest example I can think of. Suppose you have an automation that is your pre-purchase marketing and your new customer onboarding. The goal is “makes a purchase.” When that happens, the contact skips over the rest of the pre-purchase marketing lands at the goal and then proceeds to receive the onboarding sequence. You wouldn’t want the contact to proceed past the goal until they’d made a purchase so for that automation, you’d set it to “wait until conditions are met.”
Alternatively, you may have a workflow that is just pre-purchase marketing follow up. You want to measure how effective each campaign is at getting a contact to perform your call to action, but you don’t want to stop them from flowing through the sequence. You might set up Goals as “continue anyway” and “when the goal is below the contact’s position” so that you can track whether the contact performed the CTA within a time frame without disturbing the timing of the rest of the sequence.
I hope that makes sense. Let me know if any of that was unclear.
Yes, please do reply again if it’s not clear and let me know what about it doesn’t make sense. The Goal action is probably the most complicated so don’t feel bad it isn’t clear yet. I’ll try to find other ways to explain it.
