New to AC and have a question about tags vs event tracking. I understand the difference and where one could be useful, but for my particular scenario I wish to track downloads via optin, and it seems this can be done via event tracking or tags. Are there any benefits/disadvantages of using one over the other for this particular thing? It seems you can segment on both anyway, so just curious to see example of why someone may use one over the other. Thanks.

Well event tracking requires custom php code to be written to listen for that event. Tags would be much easier.
When someone requests the download you simply have an automation to deliver it, as part of the Automation you would add a tag such as, “DL: Item XYZ”.
It would be easy then to go and see how many people on your list have that tag.
True, that makes sense. I’d still like to hear if anyone has any use case examples of where the two would really make a difference.
