I’m speaking at a local conference this week, and have setup an SMS subscription that will allow people to subscribe to my list while I’m talking. The issue that I’m having is that it’s hard to rig something up, because there’s no trigger for “Subscribes via SMS.”
Right now, I’ve created a separate list, and those who subscribe via SMS are subscribed to that list. I then subscribe them to the actual list I want them in.
Is there a way to test whether or not someone has subscribed via SMS? Could this be an “Event” trigger?
Right now I think you have the best solution. I would probably include a tag in that automation that moves them to a new list as well. Having an event trigger isn’t a bad idea, I would encourage you to suggest it to ideas.activecampaign.com
I do something similar for a couple of my clients who are speakers. During their talk they will give the SMS information and tell folks to use it to request the slides, bonus, etc. The flow generally works like this:
The SMS adds them to a “working list”
I create an automation with a trigger of “Subscribes to List”.
This automation
sends the email with a link to the slides / bonus
applies tags to record the event, what they requested, etc.
subscribes them to the main list
unsubscribes them from the working list
One other thing to note - unless I’ve missed it, you don’t get the person’s name as part of the normal SMS subscription. You get their phone number and their email address, but not a name. So you just need to take that into consideration when personalizing emails.
