Hello!
I was wondering if anyone has found or created a way to begin an automation based on a user/contact not opening an email from a campaign.
The purpose here is a follow up reminder to enter a giveaway. Contacts/users who enter would not receive the email again, but users/contacts who did not open the email would be sent a follow up reminder with a tailored message: “Don’t miss out on our giveaway” etc.
Thanks for any and all help
Tyler
Have an automation where everyone will get the follow-up, and then use and if/then to jump email openers past the second send.
But… Some people read the email in preview pane and I’m not sure that this ever/always registers as a read. Perhaps someone knowledgeable can answer that point?

Hey Tyler and mikeclayton,
Biannca here from our CX team, sorry we missed this when it was originally published.
In the spirit of providing insight on this question, we don’t have a way to start an automation based on unopened emails.
However, you can add a tag contact after you’ve sent your campaign (via bulk edit) and trigger them into the automation that way. From there you can use the “Has not opened” condition to re-target contacts.
Another workaround is to setup last engaged date to track when a contact last engaged and you can re-target contacts that way.
- To set this up, you will need to create a date custom field called “Last Engaged Date” and create an automation like this: https://screen.ac/jkupqkbQ (or import this recipe straight into your account).
The automation essentially updates the Last engaged date every time a contact clicks/opens an email.
Please don’t hesitate to reply back out or email us at help@activecampaign.com if you have any further questions.
