Link click add to automation not working?

Hey guys
So I have an automation series (series A) and in one email, I have a link that leads to a LeadPages thank you page. That page is hosted using the LP WP plugin on my site. (velonomad.com/sim-thanks for those wondering).

I have a listener (starting point for the second automation B) so that if user clicks that link in A, I start the automation B. I am using this logic fine in other automations.

Logic is: click a link in A, starting point for B is that link click.

So the listener is in the second automation I want to subscribe them to. It’s not inline with the source automation (as I’d have to be continually listening, i.e. do I wait 5 days to check, or 10? Better to have the listener waiting as a starting point, and it’s working for a totally separate automation pair C and D.

My tracking domain was domain.com and the link was encoded as www.domain.com, so I am wondering if that makes a difference.

I also tried checking if user had visited the thank you page as opposed to listening for the link click. that has no effect.

It’s simply not working and yes link tracking is turned on.

I also went to the trigger email (where the trigger link is) and went to the end of the email building workflow and checked link tracking, clicked customise and looked for that link. AC knows if that link gets clicked to start the Automation B.

I’ve got run Multiple times to check. I’ve also got a notifier flag at the start of automation B so I know if it gets clicked.

I checked reports and they are picking up the link clicks (I am using Google UTM params for tracking.)

Interestingly, if I try and set up an inline link click listener I can choose the previous email, but not a specific link.

Any insights would be most appreciated.

About the only thing I can think of, is do I need to add them to a list?

Hi Tim - @velonomad!

Two possible solutions for you:

Looks like having www.domain.com encoded might be the issue. To have site tracking enabled, you’ll have to update this with your domain and then add it to your whitelist in your AC Site Tracking.

Another possibility is that the automation is listening for a click from an incorrect email.

To test this, go to the trigger where you have it listening for that click. Then go to that email’s summary page and update the subject of the email the automation is listening to. If it updates in the automation, you’ve selected the correct email. If not, you can update it to the correct one from that list. FYI we only load the first 20 or so emails, so if you have more, just type in the first 3 characters of the email and it will show.

HTH!
