Getting contacts into an automation

If I create an automation with a start trigger of ‘start automation when a user subscribes to a list’ will the users that are already subcribed to that list be included in the automation or will only users that subscribe after the automation goes active be included.

thanks Jonathan

The trigger will be the action of subscribing, so if they are already subscribed no, it’s too late.

Hi Paul, thanks for that - it does explain why my automation wasn’t working ! So how do you go about getting members of a list that have already have subscribed into an automation. For example I have a list with 89 people on it who have purchased from me and i want to send them a little series of emails about a new product release with a loyalty discount for previously buying from me - say 3 emails over a 10 day period and 2nd, 3rd emails use what ifs to only send if they haven’t taken up the offer etc - so i can use and automation but how would i trigger to get them into the automation

thanks J x

You can trigger an automation by adding contacts manually. Right down the bottom of the ‘How will a contact enter your automation?’ screen you can select ‘Or don’t have a trigger for your automation’. Select this. Once your automation has been built, go to Contacts, query up the contacts you would like to add, go Edit > All Selected > Add to Automation.
