Create a contact with custom field values

Hey there,

I’m trying to create a contact with custom field values like explain in your documentation (Overview).

Ex:

Unfortunately, it doesn’t work (and I saw lots of support tickets with this issue I guess …). It creates well the contact but without all these custom fields values. You can understand I will not make more than 30 requests to create/update these custom fields. Please, could you fix this issue asap?

Hi Cyrille,

When creating a contact with custom fields, you must use the custom field’s id. It appears you’re trying to use the title/name of the field. You can get the field ids you need using the the fields list API endpoint.

I have been having this problem too and your documentation is not helping matters.

Here: Create a contact

It says “Contact’s custom field values [{field, value}]”

“field” should apparently be “fieldId”??

Why not just create the field if it doesn’t already exist?

It’s working now that I am using the Field ID

The documentation has been updated to highlight the need to reference field by id. Thank you for bringing it to our attention.
