I added automation and I condition it base on the contact’s list (e.g. sample_list). Basically I want to send emails sequence to old contacts who had a specific list. But when I start the automation, it won’t trigger unless there’s a new contact added and I manually added the list sample_list through Contacts menu.
Is there a way to do a email sequence for the old contacts?

You are correct, once the automation is set up it would only trigger the new contacts added to your list moving forward. The way to have your old contacts added to the automation you wish would be by adding them manually. Here’s an article giving all the instructions on how to bulk a group of contacts into your automation. Hope this helps!
