when i add a contact with a ipv6 IP it just fails, change the IP to ipv4 and no issues.

Biannca here from our CX team, sorry we missed this when it was originally published.
In the spirit of providing insight on this question, at this time we still only support IPv4 when adding contacts. IPv6 is still not something we still support.
I recommend submitting an idea at ideas.activecampaign.com if you have not done so yet. This where our team check this frequently and seek to implement ideas that are well supported.
