Add tag for facebook share

Hi All.

We are running a campaign where we are offering a coupon for sharing a particluar campaign. While we can track the click if they go through our campaign emailer, I would like to add a TAG to our users profile based on that click. This will then enter them into an automation.

Steps:

  1. Send mailer
  2. Offer a discount coupon on a social share button in the mailer
  3. Track that share
  4. Add a TAG in active campaign
  5. Enter the user into an automation based on that TAG.

Is this possible?

Thanks,
shawnBhopkins.

Hey Shawn,

That should be possible. You will need to make sure to have link-tracking turned on in your campaign if you haven’t already.

When setting up an automation, it is possible to have the automation trigger when a user clicks a link in an email.

You can configure the trigger to accept contacts into the automation only when they click the link in the specific campaign.

From there, you can complete the steps you outlined, as well as tag the contact based on their social share (so you can keep your contacts organized)

Hope that helps! Let us know if you have any more questions, and sounds like a great strategy.

Hi Shawn,

To add onto what Jordan suggested, there’s another option:

You can add a link action to the link from the campaign itself. If all you need to do is add a tag, this might be the option that makes the most sense because it will help you minimize the amount of automations you have. On the downside, it might be difficult to recall how exactly that tag is being added years from now.

When you add the link in the campaign, you’ll see a gear icon immediately to the right:

Clicking that and then “Add action” will give you the option to perform a variety of automated action on click including adding a tag.

Let me know if you have any questions about this.

Hi jskole.

Thanks for your assistance. This is an obvious solution to my needs.
It is so easy to overcomplicate automations. The trick is to keep it simple.

The only issue with this method however, is that there is no gaureantee that the user actually shares the link.
I am not sure if the functionaltiy in this link is dated:

Active Campaign does however track the actual share. Is there anyway to enter the user into an automation based on this track?

Thanks again for your assistance.

Yes, when ActiveCampaign sees they’ve shared your campaign link, an automation can begin using this trigger:
