False Email Opens?

Hi there,

I am curious as to why my stats on email campaigns are showing email opens within the first minute of sending - when that recipient has not opened the email? I have checked this multiple times now with not only my own personal email as a recipient, but subscribers as well. Would love to know if anyone else has had this problem?

I want to make sure the stats I am receiving from each campaign are indeed correct and not inaccurate.

Thanks!

Our team would have to dig into your account specifically to properly troubleshoot. Can you DM me with your activehosted account name so our team can further assist?

Hey there,

Thanks for reaching out!

The behavior you’re describing sounds like it is being caused by Apple Mail Privacy Opens (Apple MPP). You can read more about this here: ActiveCampaign and Apple iOS 15 Mail Privacy Protection.

These “opens” are basically Apple sending back an instant 100% open rate for all emails received by a contact using an Apple product with MPP enabled. That means an email can be reported as “opened” even if the contact themselves has not opened the email.

You can tell if an email has been opened by Apple MPP because you’ll see this indicator on the entry for the open in the contact’s activity stream: Zight 2024-10-24 at 3.41.43 PM.

You can filter these in/out of your campaign reports with the following toggle: Zight 2024-10-24 at 3.38.19 PM. That is located in the top-right of both the campaign overview report and campaign performance report.

I hope this helps, and don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions. Have a great rest of your day ahead!
