Custom Contacts Field


I want to know if the change in custom contact field will affect the data that I already have.
Let’s say that I have a custom contact field as Number of Employees as a drop down with options: 1-5, 5-25, 25-50, 50-100, 100-500, 500-1000. Now say that I need to change the range as 50-100, 100-250, 250-500,500-1000.
Will this change in the custom contact field affect the data that i have already in AC.
